Aamir Ishtiaque on Transforming Lives with Online Personal Training

In the world of fitness and personal transformation, few names stand out as prominently as Aamir Ishtiaque. With over 10 years of experience and hundreds of client success stories, Aamir has made a huge impact as an online personal trainer. Today, we chat with him to explore his journey, approach, and the secrets behind his impressive success in helping people reach their fitness goals.

The Early Days: Shaping a Fitness Career

Q: Aamir, your journey began at Northumbria University studying Physiotherapy.  How did you end up in fitness?

A: Studying Physiotherapy is where my fitness journey really took off. Balancing my studies with my love for competitive football was challenging, but discovering the university gym was a game-changer for me. It was love at first lift, and the gym quickly became my sanctuary.

Q: You mentioned getting into fitness modelling. How did this experience influence your career path?

A: Fitness modelling was my entry ticket into the industry. I began competing and winning competitions in Belfast and London, which led me to New York where I earned my Pro Card. This experience made me realise I was meant to be in the fitness industry. More importantly, it fueled my desire to help others discover their own path to physical well-being through my online personal training.

The Philosophy Behind Aamir Fit

Q: Your approach seems highly personalised. Can you share your training philosophy?

A: Absolutely. I’m a firm believer in creating personalised programmes that deliver quick but lasting results. My aim is for clients to feel confident about how they look and feel—like this is the last investment they’ll need to make in themselves. This involves making tailored nutrition plans that clients actually enjoy, with all calories and macros calculated for them. The key is to design programmes that complement, not complicate, their lifestyle, which is a key aspect of my success as an online fitness coach.

Q: How do you balance nutrition and training in your programmes?

A:It’s all about balance! I make sure to factor in social events so clients don’t feel like they’re missing out. And if you’ve got a sweet tooth like me, you can still enjoy a little treat each day and still see real progress. The nutrition plans are made for everyone, and the training programmes are tailored to each individual’s goals, fitness level, and available equipment.

The Power of Accountability and Support

Q: You offer two different check-in options for your clients. Can you explain the reasoning behind this?

A: Absolutely! The daily check-in means I send a morning message to keep clients motivated throughout the day. They can reach out anytime with questions or for adjustments. Weekly check-ins involve photos and updates on weight and measurements, which helps me tweak their program every Sunday. The weekly option is great for those who are more advanced or prefer less frequent check-ins but still want my guidance.

Q: How important is accountability in achieving fitness goals?

A: Accountability is key! It’s what sets my online personal training apart. Depending on the programme chosen, clients have daily or weekly access to me throughout their 90-day coaching programme. This constant support keeps them on track and helps them tackle any questions or adjustments quickly.

Overcoming Gym Anxiety and Building Confidence

Q: Many people feel anxious about going to the gym. How do you address this issue with your online clients?

A:  Gym anxiety is super common, and I’m really passionate about helping clients overcome it. Through online fitness coaching sessions, I familiarise clients with gym equipment, exercises, and proper form, all from the comfort of their own space. I design customised workout plans tailored to their goals, fitness level, and preferences, which helps build their confidence gradually.  As an online personal trainer, I serve as a virtual companion, offering guidance, encouragement, and accountability. This support helps clients develop the confidence to eventually step into the gym with assurance.  It’s about building a new sense of confidence that goes beyond the gym.

Client Transformations and Success Stories

Q: You’ve worked with over 1,000 clients worldwide. Can you share some memorable transformations?

A: Every transformation is unique and special, but one that stands out is Colleen’s journey. She said, “This programme was never about achieving a six pack. In fact, I achieved a lot more than that – I found my self worth and I will never let that slide again.” This is what it’s all about – not just physical transformations, but real personal growth. Another client, Tim McCrory, mentioned how learning to manage his emotions has been life-changing since working with me. “Learning how to control my emotional state has been the single most important tool I have picked up since working with Aamir.” These testimonials remind me why I do what I do.

Advice for Aspiring Fitness Enthusiasts

Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting their fitness journey?

A: First off, believe in yourself! Everyone has to start somewhere, and it’s all about progress, not perfection. Find an activity you love—it doesn’t have to be a traditional gym workout. Consistency is what matters, so pick something you enjoy and can stick with for the long haul. Also, don’t forget about nutrition. It’s not about strict diets but finding balance that fits your lifestyle. And most importantly, don’t be afraid to seek help. Whether it’s from a friend, a community, or a professional like myself, support can make all the difference in achieving your goals.

The Role of Mental Health in Fitness

Q: How do you address the mental health aspect of fitness in your programmes?

A: At Aamir Fit, I believe that mental health is just as important as physical fitness in achieving overall wellness. My approach goes beyond just physical transformations – I’m committed to helping my clients develop a positive mindset and improve their mental well-being throughout their fitness journey. In my personalised coaching programmes, I place a strong emphasis on the mind-body connection. We work together to cultivate a healthy relationship with food and exercise, moving away from restrictive diets. Instead, I encourage my clients to focus on how they feel, not just how they look. We celebrate all victories, big and small – from increased energy levels and better sleep to improved confidence and self-esteem. My daily check-in option allows me to provide consistent mental support. I send morning messages to help clients stay motivated and focused throughout the day. This regular communication helps build resilience and maintain a positive outlook, even when facing challenges. I also incorporate mindfulness techniques into our programmes. This might include guided meditation sessions, breathing exercises, or journaling prompts. These practices help clients develop a more balanced and holistic approach to their health and fitness journey.

Nutrition: Beyond Calorie Counting

Q: Can you elaborate on your approach to nutrition? How do you make it sustainable for clients?

A: Nutrition can be tricky for many clients, so I’ve developed an approach that’s both effective and enjoyable. Instead of restrictive diets or extreme measures, we focus on creating a balanced, sustainable eating plan that fits into the client’s lifestyle. We start by educating clients about macronutrients and their role in the body. Then, I create a personalised plan that includes foods they enjoy. The key is finding the right balance that supports their goals while still allowing for flexibility. I’m a big proponent of the 80/20 rule – 80% of the time, focus on nutrient-dense, whole foods, and 20% of the time, enjoy your favourite treats in moderation. This approach helps prevent the feeling of deprivation that often leads to binge eating or giving up on a nutrition plan altogether. We also work on shifting mindsets around food—seeing it as fuel rather than something scary or restrictive.

The Importance of Rest and Recovery

Q:How do you factor in rest days in your training programs?

A: Rest days are super important but often overlooked! In my programmes, I emphasise the importance of adequate sleep, proper hydration, and scheduled rest days. I educate clients on the science of muscle recovery and growth, explaining why rest is just as important as the workouts themselves.  I often incorporate active recovery days into training schedules, which might include light cardio, yoga, or stretching sessions. Additionally, we discuss stress management techniques, as chronic stress can significantly impact physical progress. This might involve recommending relaxation practices, suggesting ways to improve sleep quality, or adjusting workout intensity based on a client’s stress levels and recovery capacity.

The Future of Online Personal Training

Q: What do you think the future holds for online personal training?

A: The future of online personal training is incredibly bright.  The pandemic pushed more people toward virtual fitness solutions, and I think that’s here to stay. In my programs, I focus on delivering a highly tailored approach:

  1. Personalisation: I create tailored  nutrition and workout plans that align with your goals, lifestyle, and preferences.
  2. Flexibility: My programs adapt to your needs, ensuring you have a plan that fits your lifestyle.
  3. Accountability: Depending on your program, you can reach out to me daily or weekly for support and motivation.

Q: What’s next for Aamir Fit?

A: My goal is to continue expanding our reach and helping more people transform their lives.I’m constantly refining our programs based on client feedback and the latest research while finding new tech ways to enhance the online experience without losing that personal touch.
